The New Volkswagen Arteon Unveiled

Friday March 10, 2017
Unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Volkswagen Arteon sedan emphasises emotionality in the upper mid-class.

The brand new Arteon sedan is due to arrive in New Zealand in September this year, and is set to revolutionise the Volkswagen sedan line-up. It will sit just above the Volkswagen Passat, with an extra 95mm in length, an avant-garde design and a highly dynamic body-style.

The design of this fastback model features a high level of versatility, combined with a revolutionary interior architecture and the latest generation driver assistance systems. With additional functionality from the large tailgate and outstanding interior space capacity, the Arteon offers a unique alternative in the Volkswagen range.

A new name emerges

The Arteon, went through a lengthy naming process which began two years ago when a team of experienced name creators went to work. The new name “Arteon” is closely related to the Sharan, Touran and Tiguan. Just like its siblings in the Volkswagen family, this name is an invented word – a creation consisting of two parts that, taken together, produce a certain connotation. The word “art” is used to describe the harmonious lines and emotionality of the fastback. The ending “eon” identifies the car as a premium model uniting it to the Volkswagen Phideon.

The combination of avant-garde elements with a high level of versatility mean the interior architecture is extraordinary and sleek for its body form. Features of the new Arteon include:

  • R-Line body kit
  • 206kW TSI 7-Speed DSG
  • Complete new front end, in which the LED headlights and daytime running lights merge with the chrome plated crossbars of the radiator grille and the bonnet
