Volkswagen Golf R Wheels and Brakes

Your Inbuilt Brake Disc ‘Wipers’

If you’re driving a modern Volkswagen or ŠKODA, there are a host of clever processes taking place while you’re driving along that you may not even be aware of. All designed to help keep you safe on the road and improve your vehicle’s handling.

One of those features is a brake disc wiper system.

Depending on your vehicle, if you’re travelling at over 70kph and your windscreen wipers are on consistently (rather than just intermittently), a system activates whereby your brakes are precision-applied just enough to wipe the water from your brake discs but not enough to be even slightly noticeable to the vehicle’s driver or occupants.

This removes any excess water from your brake calipers, ready to react immediately and efficiently when you need them most.

Pretty clever!
