ŠKODA Sweeps the What Car? Awards
We’re delighted to announce that What Car? has awarded ŠKODA vehicles with not one, but six awards. A true testament to ŠKODA’s craftsmanship and quality, we couldn’t be more pleased to add these well-deserved trophies to the cabinet, where they’ll be in great company.
Read on to discover which of the heavily-decorated ŠKODA range has taken gold in this year’s awards.
Fabia – Best Estate Car for Value
The Fabia is familiar with success, having received the Best Small Car award thrice in a row, plus a whole other host of accolades. Winning the Best Estate Car for Value is quite a special one though, as we think the sporty Fabia packs a big punch.
For starters, the space is impressive for a ‘small’ vehicle. What Car? quips, “The phrase ‘it’s all the car you’ll ever need’ is used flippantly and far too often, but here it is absolutely the case. For a start, the ŠKODA Fabia Estate’s boot can hold up to 530 litres of stuff.”
Critics were also impressed with its loaded features, pointing out that a 6.5″ infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus air-con, rear parking sensors, and more made the Fabia “a pleasure to live with.”
Finally, the Fabia punches above its weight in value: “…it’s not ‘just’ a cheap estate; it’s a brilliantly versatile and likeable estate that just happens to be remarkably affordable.” An all-rounder indeed.
Scala – Best Family Car for Value
Awarded the Best Family Car 2020 by both What Car? and Carbuyer, we’re not surprised the Scala has another trophy.
What Car? was impressed and stated, “But this car doesn’t just get an award here because it’s cheap; it’s also exceptionally roomy inside. There’s a huge boot – bigger than those of most rivals – and spacious seating for five. That makes it one of the most practical cars you can buy for the money.”
They were also impressed with the fuel economy, scoring high points for value. The final quote to seal the deal was, “If you need room for the family at a bargain price, look no further,” they say.
Kamiq – Best Small SUV for Practicality
The new kid on the block, the Kamiq is already making waves in the crossover market. Awarded Best Small SUV 2020 by Carbuyer and Best Car Under €25,000 2019 by the Golden Steering Wheel Awards, the Best Small SUV for Practicality award is a welcome addition.
What Car? waxed poetic of the Kamiq’s roominess, citing “Up front, there are no less than 26 litres of cubby storage space, from nifty under seat trays to big door bins, while the boot is also one of the biggest in the class and will take seven carry-on suitcases.”
If you’re looking for a small SUV the Kamiq delivers it all. “A small car with small car costs and small car convenience, but one with the space and practicality of models from the class above.” We couldn’t agree more, What Car?.
Karoq – Best Family SUV for Practicality
The five-seater compact SUV took the What Car? Best Family SUV back in 2020 and we’re delighted to see it’s still a fan favourite. Perfect size for a family (What Car? claims that even a family foreign to the idea of packing light will struggle to fill the boot), the Karoq offers top points in drive handling, looks, and space.
For the busy families who just want ease, What Car? says, “Add in rear doors that are wider than those of most rivals (making your life easier when you’re installing a child seat), plus acres of storage space for odds and ends, and it’s clear the Karoq is something special in the practicality stakes.”
The Karoq isn’t just for families though, as What Car? states, “What makes it a firm favourite in this class, though, is that the Karoq is also good to drive, with a comfy ride and surefooted handling.”
Superb – Best Executive Car for Value
The Superb has been heralded for its comfort, luxury, and performance. Recently becoming the fleet vehicle of choice by the New Zealand Police, the spacious interior and safety features make this vehicle an obvious choice.
What Car? sings its praises, “Well equipped, comfy, and oh so roomy in the front, back, and boot, the Superb sets the standard among cars at its price point and challenges many cars that cost an awful lot more. Its cosy seats, plush interior, and intuitive infotainment stand out in particular in this regard.” Between the price and the features, the Superb makes a great choice for all lifestyles.
Superb – Estate Car of the Year
Winning two awards in one year, the Superb came out a star in this year’s What Car? Car of the Year Awards. What Car? specifically highlighting how comfortable of a ride it was, calling out the “limo-like passenger space” and “huge boot with practical touches”.
They state, “The ‘useful and roomy’ theme continues through the rest of the Superb. Rear passengers get the sort of legroom you expect in something chauffeur-driven, and even the tallest of drivers will be comfortable, thanks to the heated, electrically adjustable driver’s seat. On top of that, there’s an easy-to-use touchscreen (with sat-nav, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay) that finishes off an interior that looks and feels smart and solid.”
They were delighted with the features to value ratio (as seen above in its other award), and said, “Essentially, the Superb Estate is the most complete wagon you’ll find, even before you consider how much it costs. But for this price? There’s absolutely no better choice.” Enough said.
As true believers in the ŠKODA brand, we are delighted the range is receiving the accolades it so deserves. Though we didn’t need any convincing that ŠKODAs are practical, great value, delightful to drive, and highly functional (also, stylish), we take great comfort in knowing we’re not alone in these thoughts.
