ŠKODA SmartLink
Our newly-released ŠKODA vehicles – such as the Kodiaq SUV and new Octavia range – come fully equipped with the comprehensive new infotainment system, SmartLink.
SmartLink collates the technology found across MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to allow you to use your smartphone’s functions while driving. All you need to do is simply plug in your phone via a USB cord, then your smartphone will be connected to your vehicle, meaning that your phone’s functions can be easily accessed through the infotainment screen.
The hands-free system guarantees ease and safety of phone use while driving. You are able to connect two phones simultaneously, use voice control and text-to-speech. The system can read out incoming messages, which can also be written on the display.
Using the SmartLink system helps to ensure that your eyes are focused on the road ahead, ensuring the safety of you and your passengers.
It can used in a variety of ways, but it is most commonly used for:
1. Making calls: While you are able to navigate to who you need to call through the infotainment display screen, you can also use the Voice Control / Siri function and simply say aloud who you are wanting to call.
2. Sending and receiving messages: You may receive text messages while driving that you want to read. Instead of pulling over to the side of the road to read it or attempting to read while driving and putting yourself in a dangerous situation, you can simply get the system to read out the message to you. Once read, you are able to simply say aloud what you’d liek to reply with and the system will type this out for you, confirm the wording and then send!
3. Listening to directions: While heading to a new address, road users will often turn to the help of Google Maps or a similar Navigation software. While using this drivers will often look down at their phones to see where the next turn-off might be. With SmartLink, you can listen to step-by-step directions while they are also displayed on your vehicle’s display screen.
ŠKODA Global have also released a SmartGate infotainment system, however that is not yet available in New Zealand.
