ŠKODA Octavia RS iV Plug-in Hybrid Reveal

ŠKODA’s Octavia RS iV reveal was everything but conventional. On its way to the highly-anticipated 2020 Geneva Motor Show the iV was called back due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Tactics were changed and ŠKODA decided a video reveal from the Czech Republic was the next best alternative. This marked the start of its electrifying launch, and a leap into new tech-territory for the ŠKODA brand.

2020 is the year of change and a new era for ŠKODA as we celebrate 125 years of motoring. European emission standards are tightening in January 2021 and with the launch of the new Octavia RS iV, ŠKODA has demonstrated they’re confident in preparing their line-up with eco-conscious technology. Not only that, but they’ve managed to use a popular model perfect for families, and complete with sport styling and unconventional performance.

Simply Clever Power

The 1.4-litre (110kW) TSI turbocharged petrol engine and 85kW electric motor is impressive. The Octavia RS iV has a combined power output of 180kW with 400Nm torque powering the front-wheel-drive 6-speed DSG setup. The vehicle’s CO2 emissions are approximately 30g/km in the WLTP cycle. Why is this important? This model will meet a strict EU6d emission standard for all newly registered vehicles in the EU, which will be enforced from 1 January 2021.

We don’t want to bore you with the specifics, but the Octavia RS iV is awesome enough to boast about. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 37Ah equating to 13kWh, which gives the vehicle an all-electric range of up to 60km in the WLTP cycle. The 330Nm of torque means the RS iV can pull away quickly. By ‘quickly’ we mean 0.7 seconds for the conventional combustion power of the ŠKODA RS245 to reach from 0 to 100km/h!

The top speed is 225km/h. The progressive steering, typical for the RS range, caters to those with energetic driving styles. ŠKODA suggests that hybrid plug-in power can be enjoyed by those who crave a adrenaline-filled driving experience.

ŠKODA Octavia RS iV Black Sport Accents

The ŠKODA Octavia RS iV has LED fog lights and black 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, though 19-inch alloys are an option. The brake callipers offer a punch in RS-typical red and complement its upgraded drivetrain package. ŠKODA grille, air curtains, diffuser on the RS front & rear apron, aeroflaps, and window frames all come in sporty black.

    Looking inside the Octavia RS iV, the black-rich interior design is a sight for sore eyes. The traditional RS three-spoke leather multi-function sports steering wheel bears the satisfying RS logo and DSG paddle shifters for acceleration control. The front sports seats are upholstered in black fabric, while the optional Ergo seats come with suede-like Alcantara® and leather upholstery as well as seat-depth adjustment. The sporty look continues throughout, including embossed RS seat branding accompanied by alloy sports pedals, detailed stitching on the steering wheel, and Alcantara® -covered dashboard. The iV includes a 10″ infotainment monitor, delivering clear vehicle statistics and connectivity right where you want it.
