Introducing the new Golf R

Out of all the new sports cars being introduced in the market, what makes the all-new Golf R one-of-a-kind?

Well, if you’re looking for some answers, you’ve come to the right place. The latest iteration of the Golf R, without a doubt, is a masterpiece of both engineering precision and design finesse. Volkswagen has pulled out all the stops to craft a driving experience that’s as exhilarating as it is refined, highlighted by performance upgrades, cutting-edge technology, and an exclusive Black Edition.

Read on to discover highlights of the new Golf R, from its performance to exterior and interior.

Performance

Starting off with driving performance, the new Golf R is the most powerful Golf ever produced. With a 2.0 L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, it delivers a jaw-dropping 245kW (333 horsepower) and 420Nm of torque. It offers blistering acceleration that will set your pulse racing, rocketing from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.6 seconds. The thrill only intensifies with the exclusive Black Edition, delivering a top speed of 270km/h.

However, performance isn’t just about the numbers but also how that power is delivered. The Golf R’s advanced 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system with R-Performance Torque Vectoring distributes torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the rear wheels, resulting in razor-sharp cornering precision, superior agility, and unmatched stability.

The sound of performance is equally important. From as low as 2,500rpm, typical racing “backfire” echoes all around, which is produced when the engine switches to overrun mode, i.e. when the throttle is released. A sound actuator enhances the acoustics inside the cabin, letting you feel the roar of the engine with every rev.

Stability, comfort, and road-handling are important attributes you look for when identifying a good sports car, and the Golf R possesses all. An intelligent driving dynamics manager, adaptive chassis control (DCC), and ESC tuning ensure the Golf R delivers superb handling without compromising ride comfort. This balance of refinement and responsiveness makes it a perfect companion for both everyday commutes and track days.

For days when you crave adrenaline and days where you prefer a relaxed ride, the Golf R adapts with its range of driving profiles: “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Race,” and “Individual.” New to this lineup is the “Eco” mode, allowing for calmer and energy-efficient journeys.

Exterior: Bold, Sleek, and Unmistakably R

The Golf R exudes self-confidence down to the last detail, with an exterior look that sets it apart from the other R models. A redesigned front bumper and a high-gloss black ventilation grille and front splitter convey an aggressive stance and impressively display its motorsport character.

We also see a new lighting design created by the so-called LED Plus headlights, in which an LED crossbar and an illuminated “VW” logo are integrated. The optional IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights offer even greater visibility, shining up to 500 meters ahead, which is significantly better than a conventional high beam. In conjunction with the Q.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights, the new 3D LED tail light clusters with dynamic indicator functions are also available. Adding a sporty touch are the “R” design bumper, the diffuser in High-Gloss Black, and the four flow tailpipes.

Interior: Luxury Meets Motorsport

Step inside the cabin and you’ll be greeted by a world of premium materials and motorsport-inspired design. The front seats are wrapped in stylish ‘R’ Nappa leather, featuring carbon-look accents with blue stitching and an ‘R’ logo on the seat backrest. They are supportive as well as stylish, offering comfort during high-speed adventures.

Improved in the new Golf is the multi-function sports leather steering wheel equipped with larger DSG shift paddles, allowing for easier control with every turn. There are also “R” specific door side trims, floor mats with the “R” logo and pedal caps, the brushed stainless steel driver’s footrest, and a black roof lining. Customisable ambient lighting with 30 colour options lets you tailor the mood to match your driving style.
