Volkswagen Tiguan

Spotlight on the Volkswagen Tiguan & Allspace

Imagine, you’ve planned a beach holiday with your family (two kids, partner, dog). You need a workhorse that’s going to get you through those winding New Zealand roads, through some four wheel drive action, and store all that luggage while keeping you all comfortable. You sigh as you think of the boot space, horsepower, and family-conscious safety features needed to make this insurmountable task possible. Then, as if on cue, you see a Volkswagen Tiguan zip down the road. Stylish but roomy, rugged yet elegant, you realise the Tiguan is just the SUV for you.

You’re not alone in this sentiment. Cars Guide has sung praises of the Tiguan that make us blush. “The VW Tiguan is one of the most practical SUVs in its segment, with tremendous use of the space available.”

Don’t panic if you have a larger family or are a chronic overpacker, the Tiguan Allspace has seven seats. Seven. As I often remind my partner when we’re discussing the perfect vehicle, “That’s space for us and five dogs. Worth every penny.”

But I know space for fur children (and non-fur children) won’t be enough to convince you that the Tiguan is a standout SUV. It doesn’t work on my partner, either. So come along with me as we explore the special features of the Volkswagen Tiguan.

> Performance & Driving Dynamics

Flash looks and big boot space are nice, but let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

A Powerful Turbocharged Engine (TSI) is sure to excite. Delivering a powerful level of high response and max torque, you’ll be able to quickly accelerate while overtaking and power up hills. Road trip ready, if we do say so ourselves.

Experience the 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive (AWD) over tough terrain. Monitoring driving conditions to react to the slightest wheel slip, this clever system delivers extra traction when you need it.

Adaptive Suspension is controlled through electro-mechanically adjustable dampers, allowing you to control the optimum level of driving comfort and enjoyment. This feature allows the driver to feel more in control and poised while driving.

The clever Driving Profile Selection means you can change the vehicle dynamics depending on your mood (or terrain). Normal is the standard driving style, but why be normal when you can choose between Sport, Eco, and Individual (set your own parameters)?

Tiguan Allspace RLine Blindspot Monitor Light

> Advanced Active Safety

The Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring is a clever system that detects a potential collision ahead, warns the driver, and applies braking to help prevent the collision.

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert uses an LED display in the exterior mirror to alert you of the potential dangers in your blind spot. The Rear Traffic Alert monitors any traffic passing in the rear of the vehicle. If your car comes too close to another vehicle, you’ll be altered with an audio and visual warning.

The Adaptive Cruise Control allows you to set your desired speed and gap to allow between you and the car ahead of you. The Tiguan works to maintain that speed and gap, adjusting when necessary. Talk about cruising!
