What We Check and Why

Air conditioning refresh

Why?

To remove any bacteria and bad smells from the system, leave the air clean and fresh.
Bacterial build-up in the ventilation system not only smells bad, but also leads to poor airflow.

What do we do?

Our expert technicians give your air conditioning system an ultrasonic anti-bacterial and odour treatment that eliminates microbial, fungal, and bacterial contamination.

Air conditioning service

Why?

Keeps you fresh, alert, and safer.
Maintains the mechanical integrity of the system.
Our fixed-priced air conditioning service includes a system refresh.

What do we do?

We drain and recharge the system; check hoses, filters, belts, and connections; and ensure the compressor and condenser are working correctly.

Air filter replacement

Why?

For optimised engine performance and fuel economy.
To maintain the mechanical integrity of the engine.

What do we do?

We remove the old filter, check, and clean the housing and hoses, and then fit a new filter.

Battery replacement

Why?

Peace of mind knowing your battery is holding its charge and will start reliably.
We test your battery using a Volkswagen special tool that measures actual battery performance versus specified battery performance levels. It will also predict future battery life, so you can replace your battery before it fails.

What do we do?

We check the battery’s ability to hold its charge. We may need to replace the battery if it’s not holding a charge or look at why it’s not charging when you drive.

Brake fluid change

Why?

Peace of mind knowing you’ll be able to stop effectively.
It prevents contamination that could lead to a more expensive repair.

What do we do?

We check the level and look for leaks. We drain the system and fill it with new brake fluid. We test the system and record it in your service book.

Brake pads and discs

Why?

Peace of mind, knowing your brakes are in good working order to keep you (and other road users) safe.

What do we do?

We measure the brake pad wear level. If the pads or discs are worn, corroded, or warped, we will let you know so we can arrange to replace them. It is not always necessary to remove the wheels to check the brake pads (pad wear/thickness, disc condition), but where a further detailed inspection is required (or if the wheel does not allow full visibility), the wheel(s) may be removed.

Bulb replacement

Why?

To maintain the best possible vision in the dark and poor light conditions such as fog.
To increase your visibility and signal your driving intentions to other drivers.
We promise to fit exterior bulbs bought from us free of charge.

What do we do?

We’ll check all your bulbs to ensure they’re working correctly, free of charge. If they need replacing, we’ll offer a competitive quote.

Cambelt change

Why?

Peace of mind knowing excessive wear to your engine and the risk of snapping off the belt have been minimised and that your engine life is prolonged.
We give a 2-year parts and labour warranty on Volkswagen parts fitted after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired.

What do we do?

We strip down the relevant parts of the engine and renew the cambelt and cambelt tensioner. Then we reassemble the engine and road-test your car.

Constant velocity boot replacement

Why?

You will pass an MOT test requirement, keeping you legal and safe.
To protect the CV joint from failure, giving you a smoother, quieter drive.
We give a 2-year parts and labour warranty on Volkswagen parts fitted after the manufacturer warranty has expired.

What do we do?

We check the CV boot is in good condition. If it needs replacing, we access the CV joint and then refit a new CV boot, re-greasing the joint at the same time.

Diesel fuel filter replacement

Why?

For optimised engine performance and fuel economy.
To maintain the mechanical integrity of the engine.

What do we do?

We remove the filter from the fuel system and replace it with a new one.

DSG transmission oil and filter change

Why?

To save on costly gearbox repairs.
To improve your car’s performance.
It keeps your warranty valid for any repairs to parts related to the gearbox.

What do we do?

We check the gearbox for leaks, drain it, and replace the oil filter* before filling it with high-quality gearbox oil to Volkswagen-approved standards. *Only on applicable vehicles.

Exhaust replacement

Why?

To ensure optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.
To ensure exhaust fumes are channeled away from the vehicle, do not enter the cabin.
It keeps engine/combustion noises to a minimum.

What do we do?

We check the exhaust system for leaking joints, excessive noise and corrosion, broken hangers, and weak rubber mountings.

Four wheel drive alignment

Why?

Bumps are more efficiently absorbed for a smoother ride.
Fuel economy and road handling are improved.
Uneven tyre wear is reduced.

What do we do?

We perform an Express Visual Check (EVC) for wear and tear. We then check the tracking, caster, camber, and thrust angle of your wheels on our Four Wheel Alignment machine, adjusting anything as required. We then retest your car and road-test it before giving you an accurate diagnostic print-out.

Petrol engine spark plug replacement

Why?

Your Volkswagen will continue to start reliably.
For optimised engine performance and fuel economy.

What do we do?

We remove the spark plugs from the engine, inspect them (they can tell us a lot about how your engine’s performing), and replace them with new ones.

Service

Why?

To ensure your car stays in peak condition, so you get optimum performance and endurance from all components.

What do we do?

Volkswagen trained technicians, using specialist tools and technology, carry out the recommended service, tailored to your car. We will replace the filters and lubricants specified and road-test your car before recording the service in your service book.

Shock absorber replacement

Why?

To ensure that shock absorbers continue to do their job of absorbing pressure from bumps, making the car comfortable and safe to drive.
To reduce stress on other mechanical parts helping them last longer.
To prevent wear on the chassis, which can lead to further issues.
It maintains your ability to stop safely in a straight line.

What do we do?

We check for worn and leaking shock absorbers whenever we service your car. If any one isn’t working correctly, we tell you it should be replaced.

Tyre replacement

Why?

Too much wear will affect grip and safety as your car becomes harder to handle.
Incorrect tyre pressures and/or uneven tyre wear will also increase stopping distances in wet conditions.

What do we do?

We check your tyres for pressure, tread depth, and wear of the pattern. If they need replacing, we have a range of different options in stock, depending on your car and type of driving.

Wiper blade replacement

Why?

The correct size of wiper blade for your windscreen is the only way to keep it clear.
You may not notice they are worn until your visibility is affected.

What do we do?

We check the wiper blades and if they are worn or broken we will let you know before replacing them for you.

How much will a standard service cost me?

The Volkswagen Essential Service is $389 and applies to Volkswagen vehicles that are 5 years or older. For newer vehicle servicing, please make an enquiry for obligation free advice or a quote.

What do I get with a standard vehicle service?

A standard vehicle service is carried out to manufacturer specifications and includes:

Check exterior vehicle condition (note damage or corrosion), check doors and flaps (grease)
Check exterior lighting operation, check headlight adjustment
Check interior lighting (luggage lights, 12v socket, warning lamps)
Check headlight alignment, adjust as required
Check engine bay condition top up fluids as required. Check coolant strength.
Top up washer fluid, Top up AdBlue (only on customer request or recommendation)
Check wiper blade condition and operation, check windscreen for damage
Check screen washer operation and alignment, adjust as required
Check and test battery
Check tyre condition & inflation pressures (check breakdown set expiry date if required)
Check front and rear brakes, condition and wear. Check dust caps. Check fluid condition.

What is your workshop capacity?

We have 13 hoists in total, in dedicated servicing bays, with experienced diagnostic and repair technicians. We also have dedicated commercial vehicle facilities and staff specifically trained and skilled in this area.

How much is a WOF? Do I get a cheaper rate if included with a service?

The current rate for a WOF is $85 or $70 if combined with a service. Plus5 Club members receive an additional 10% discount when combining a WOF with a Plus5 service – reducing the WOF to just $63.

Are all technicians certified?

Yes, all of our technicians are Volkswagen AG Trained.

Can I get a wheel alignment done with you?

While we don’t have the facilities to perform wheel alignments in-house, we have a trusted relationship with a local wheel alignment specialist. These are priced from $110 and can be booked using our form below.

Do you offer pre-purchase inspections?

Yes, we do. These are priced from $250 and include a full diagnostic report of vehicle electronics.

Can I get my vehicle software updated during a service?

Yes, of course. While this isn’t included in our standard servicing checklist, these are by customer request (if available) and are priced from $160, including navigation maps update.

Do you do recall checks?

Yes, recall checks are a mandatory Volkswagen AG requirement, each time you visit our workshop.

Do you offer a Volkswagen Roadside Assistance membership?

Yes, a 12-month Volkswagen Roadside Assistance membership is available to purchase from our Service Advisors for $30 at your workshop appointment.

Can I request for you not to use genuine parts to keep the cost down?

We will always use Volkswagen Genuine Parts as we trust these are high-quality and reliable, and they are engineered to precisely fit your Volkswagen. While they might cost more than the aftermarket replica, they may save you money over the lifetime of your vehicle, plus we offer a 2-year guarantee on all genuine parts. The Service Team here at Miles Continental understand, for some, servicing your vehicle during the week can be a stressful task. So, we’re opening our bookings to Saturdays and there are plenty of benefits that come with a Saturday service appointment.
