Teeing Off for a Great Cause with Rānui House

There’s something special about a community coming together for a good cause. That’s exactly what happened at this year’s Rānui House Annual Charity Golf Tournament, and we were delighted to support the event once again.

A few of our Miles Continental crew headed along to Clearwater Golf Club to join Rānui House and plenty of other keen golfers for a day on the greens. This is the kind of event that brings people together around a shared purpose – to support and raise funds for the Bone Marrow Cancer Research Trust and the incredible work they do supporting patients and families across Aotearoa.

“We were so grateful to once again be a part of the Rānui Golf Day this year, and the weather could not have been better. A fantastic day enjoyed by all! This event is always a highlight for us at Miles Continental. It is such a wonderful opportunity to support Rānui and help raise funds for a group that does so much for families when they need it the most.”

The perfect weather made for ideal conditions on the course, and the atmosphere was exactly what you’d hope for. It was a fantastic day that reinforced exactly why we’re proud to support Rānui House.

We were excited to supply the grand prize of a Volkswagen Golf to the lucky person who could hit a hole-in-one on the 9th hole. However, despite plenty of enthusiasm, no one quite landed the ace needed to drive away in the new car.

In partnership with the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust, we are honored to continue supporting their mission to cure and care by providing a home-away-from-home for patients and their whānau as they undergo lifesaving treatment for cancer, serious accidents, and life-threatening illnesses.

The Trust was founded over 32 years ago by a dedicated group of volunteers and haematologists with a clear purpose: to raise the funds needed to establish New Zealand’s first bone marrow transplant unit at Christchurch Hospital. Today, it remains a charitable trust, funded by donations from New Zealanders.

The original Rānui House, Little Rānui, was built in 1993. Demand quickly outpaced capacity, and over the years, the facility expanded to meet the growing need. For more than three decades, the Trust has supported thousands of patients and families who have had to leave home to access critical medical care in Christchurch.

In 2004, the Bone Marrow Cancer Research Trust was formed to fund vital cancer research and enable better outcomes for patients.

In November 2024, the Rānui Apartments opened – providing 54 purposefully designed apartments to complement the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust’s existing facilities at Rānui House. This expansion means even more families can access the care and support they need during challenging times.

Throughout its journey, the Research Trust has continued to fund life-saving and world-class cancer research through its annual grants programme.

A big thanks to the organisers for putting together another successful event, and to all the other teams and sponsors who made it happen.
